UM MEDICAL CENTER CHILDREN’S OF MISSISSIPPI
JACKSON, MS

CHALLENGE
The $180 million expansion of the Children’s Hospital required temporary shoring for the construction of the below grade parking and permanent shoring for access to the hospitals loading docks. These earth retention structures had to be constructed to support the difficult Yazoo clays.

SOLUTION
The project team needed a subcontractor that could meet the design and construction challenges presented by the on-site subsurface conditions. Pinnacle provided the design and construction effort for the temporary soil nail shoring for the parking garage. The temporary shoring consisted of helical anchors with a shotcrete face. A permanent cantilever soldier pile retaining wall with precast concrete lagging was constructed for the permanent shoring.

VALUE
Pinnacle’s design and construction versatility rose to the occasion on this project by constructing several of their proven reliable solutions to overcome the site challenges. All in all, the biggest outcome of the project was the construction of a seven-story tower that more than doubled the hospital’s space to care for children in the state of Mississippi.
